In case you’re coming into the game late and have no idea what this whole Ten Thousand Hours thing is, you’ve hit the right page.

Ten Thousand Hours (10kH) is an idea I had in early March (maybe late February — the months all kind of ran together there for a bit) that combines Smashing Magazine’s article by Jad Limcaco about designing something every day for a year and Malcolm Gladwell’s postulate that it takes ten thousand hours of focused study and action to master anything on a world-class level.

And no, I don’t really have anything against Gladwell’s hair.  Though I do think that it should be kept from small children, and that Gladwell’s Hair would be an awesome band name.

For your convenience, and if you’re interested, here are the initial/planning posts about 10kH, in order:

1.  A Life Lived in Hours

2.  Where Productivity Geeks Gather… I Shall Be There.

3.  The Meat in the Sandwich, Unless You’re a Vegan

4.  Boundaries, Rules, Guidelines, and Rewards

6.  Q & A and Stuff

My own project runs for a year from April 15th, 2010.  Or until I decide I need to be doing other things.  One of the two.  You’re more than welcome to play along, no matter how you want to do.  Misery, company, blah blah blah. :)

Here’s to the next ten thousand hours!

(4.14.10) P.S. — If you want to play along, leave me a comment here with your url and what you’re doing. I’m adding your links into the sidebar over there —-> so that I can follow along on those days when I think I’m just throwing words into the void. Help a sister out, wouldja? :)
