the whole process of doing art that means something, including:

• The importance of Art as a vehicle for socio-political expression, and the historical examples of such.
• Getting clear: Distilling your beliefs into a cohesive, well-defines point and translating that point into a set of representational symbols.
• Saying what you want to say: Using your personal symbology in a global context, and getting that message into the medium of your choice.
• Dark vs. Light: Celebrating the beauty of your voice and why all artworks with a message don't have to be dark and scary or fluffy-bunnyish either. Learn to get your point across to your viewer/reader without freaking them out, or how to do just that if it fits your vision.
• Reactionary Art: Creating works to respond to others' views in a way that preserves the integrity of your voice.
• Critiques without Tears: How to separate the person from the art, and how to identify parts of the critical voices that can help you keep making art, possibly better than before.

All six lessons and discussions over the entire three weeks (posted every Tuesday and Friday, beginning on July 30th), inclusion in a gallery (optional) of class works to get that new, stronger voice out there and speaking its message, and daily emails from Monday - Friday of each week to inspire you to sit down and work. The group discussion list is open through the whole class and beyond, to keep you supported even after the formal class is over, and any support you need from me, as well.

Once the class is completed, we'll be compiling a downloadable, PDF-version zine with our art and writing (or anything else that can be web-i-fied). A print version may be made available for a small extra printing cost (depending on how affordably we can find a printer to create it for us). You'll be a published artist. :)

fine print: you can join the class once it begins, but since you'll be getting all the info, there's no discount.
