BEGINNING
MARCH 10, 2004:
FANTASTIC
JOURNEYS
class size: open to
all explorers
investment: $20 USD
class
description:
Do people say you
live in a world all your own? Here's your chance to prove them
right! We'll each be inventing and populating our own World
That Never Existed, complete with people, stories, myths and legends,
holidays, and much, much more! This multi-disciplinary course
will touch on topics like ATCs (artist's trading cards), altered books,
art journals, simple bookbinding, artistamps, stamp carving, shrinemaking
and collage. You'll leave this five-session class with a box FULL of
relics from your own imaginary world -- not to mention a whole lot of
inspiration. (Plus, students are encouraged to participate in an
after-class swap of passports, postcards, and other travel ephemera.
You'll have a whole new atlas when you're done.)
schedule:
Every
Wednesday, a new lesson is posted in both PDF (with pictures)
and text (with links) formats for you to download whichever way is easiest
for you. Two days will be yours to explore the ideas and information
presented. On Mondays, there will be a chat at 8:00 p.m. CST (9 p.m.
Eastern, 6 p.m. Pacific) in which we'll collectively go over the
exercises, learn the new techniques, share our Imagination Flights, and
PLAY together in our magical worlds. On Tuesday, a transcript of
the chat will be posted for download in PDF and text format so you
won't miss anything if you couldn't attend. Explorers are
encouraged to use the rest of the week to brainstorm with the group on the
mailing list to establish trade relations with your sister nations,
set up trades of postal materials, or to forge friendships for your
citizens with people from other imaginary worlds.
The course
lasts six weeks, from March 10, 2004 until April 7, 2004.
today! We're going to try to take everybody, but if class sizes are
TOO big, we may have to cap it to keep it from getting overwhelming for
the quieter students. :)
When you are
a paid participant, further information will be sent to you via email
about getting set up in the class area. If you are mailing a
check for it, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, otherwise I can't get
ahold of you to tell you your schedule!
You'll be
mailed the following in your Thank-You Kit:
-
A
complete course syllabus
-
A
recommended supplies list
-
An
optional bibliography for further reading and study
-
Information
on how to get into the classroom and how to get the most out of the
class. (mailed near class time)
-
A
private email address for the instructor for questions
Participants/students
should have at least a basic knowledge of computers and the internet (how
to use email, how to access messages and files on a basic Yahoogroup
format), and an ADVENTUROUS spirt to PLAY and HAVE FUN! You'll
be on a Yahoo!group mailing list format, but yahoo membership is not
required for this -- I can add you directly if you're nervous about doing
it yourself.
If you have
any questions, feel free to email me and I'll try to answer them as best I
can.
Can't wait to see you there!
